Self-Invocation in Motion: An Exercise in Presence
Today’s exercise is inspired by Invocation of Presence by E.J. Gold. If you’re curious to explore more practices for cultivating awareness, you can check out the book here.
We often move through life on autopilot—driving, eating, walking—barely aware of where our attention truly is. This exercise is designed to interrupt that automation and invite presence into the most ordinary moments.
Try This Today:
Pause throughout the day and ask yourself:
Where is my attention?
What am I doing?
What am I feeling?
Catch yourself in automatic actions and deliberately invoke presence.
Hold the awareness of both inner and outer worlds simultaneously.
Why It Matters:
This exercise cultivates the ability to observe yourself in motion, bridging the inner world of thought and emotion with the outer world of action and experience. It’s a practice of presence that turns the mundane into the sacred.
